ESOL 1, ESOL 2, ESOL 3, Pre-American History, Pre-Integrated Science, Language of Math, Critical Reading, Advanced Critical Reading

I.  Classroom Conduct & Expectations

 

  1. Be on time for class
  2. Be prepared for class
  3. Be respectful to others
  4. Work up to his or her potential
  5. SPEAK & PRACTICE ENGLISH !

 

II.  Attendance & Make-up Work

Daily attendance is very important to the success of each student.  If a student is absent, it is his/her responsibility to see each teacher for their missed work.  However, only those students that have excused absences will be permitted to complete missed assignments.  Students will only be given the number of days they were absent to complete the assignments.  No exceptions!  Students who have 5 or more unexcused absences will fail the class for the quarter.   (Please refer to the entire attendance policy in the Student Code of Conduct)

 

III. Textbooks

Each student will receive a textbook in his/her English class.  Upon issue, books are to be covered and should remain that way throughout the year.  Any book that is lost, stolen or damaged should be reported immediately.  However, students will be charged the full price of any book that is lost or damaged.

 

IV.  Grading Scales and Policies for 2010-2011

Students will receive grades based on the system below. 

 

A   90-100%          Good, Superior, Excellent

B   80-90%            Above Average, Good

C   70-80%            Average, Fair

D   60-70%            Below Average, Minimally Passing

E    0-59%              Failing

 

 

 

V.  Grading Factors & Weights

 

Homework:  Homework, completed outside of class, shall include structured opportunities for students to practice speaking, listening, reading and writing

Class Work:  Class work shall include all work begun and/or completed in class.  Class work may include warm-ups, class discussions, group activities, and other regularly assigned learning tasks targeted to enhance students’ speaking, listening, reading an writing skills.

Assessments:  (oral and written):  Assessments include tests and quizzes, as well as on-going teacher observations of students’ language skills
